Mon morning, May 1, 2017

around 7:35 a.m., i emptied our rain gauge. it measured 1.03 inches of rainfall that occurred over the weekend.

i noticed this morning that some east and west spirea bushes had blooms. i didn't check around 8pm yest eve when we arrived home from dd's parent's. i'm guessing that some blooms existed yest, apr 30, 2017. none existed sat morning, apr 29.

the shrub located next to the southwest corner of the garage started producing its cone-shaped, tall, light blue-purple flowers last week. prob began around tue, apr 25 or wed, apr 26.

as of this morning, most of the blooms were gone from the middle oval crunchberry shrub. it seems that the ground-level plants and the shrubs are ahead of schedule by 10 to 14 days while the hardwood trees seem about normal.

the backyard sugar maple, however, has good leaf development. it will be at full-leaf this week if it's not at full-leaf now. oaks vary from mostly bare with hardly any oak flower to tiny leaves and green oak flower to 2 to 3 inch long leaves and thicker, longer clumps of oak flower. not falling yet

while outside this morning, i heard a wtsp sing, and i heard a callnote that prob belonged to a mywa. i thought that i heard a BAOR sing once around 6:30 a.m. near the west side of the house before i got up. didn't hear it again though.

temps warmed over night from the low to mid 50s around 9pm last night to the mid to upper 60s by 8am today.

I heard a RGBR around 9:45 p.m. as we loaded the car before leaving visit Deb's parents. I saw the bird high up in Dave's oak tree that hangs over or near our front yard. I first heard the squeaky call note that reminds me of a sneaker on a gym floor. Dad liked that description. Then I head the grosbeak sing once, softly.
