created at 1:08 a.m. - Heck of a way to close out winter. Temps increased during the evening hours on Tue, Feb 28, 2017, reaching the low 60s before Midnight. Amazingly, the dew point temps were about 60 degrees. March 1 marks the start of spring on the meteorological calendar.

For the month of February 2017, Toledo Express Airport recorded only one-inch of snow accumulation. TOL recorded snow on only five days.

0.30 inches of snow fell on Feb 1, and 0.70 inches of snow fell on Feb 8. Three other days recorded a trace of snow accumulation.

Normal snowfall for February is 9.4 inches.

TOL recorded only 2.8 inches of snow accumulation in January. Normal snowfall for January is 11.6 inches.

Back in December, TOL recorded 13.2 inches of snow. Normal is 7.4 inches. On Dec 11, 2016, TOL recorded a little over 10 inches of snow accumulation.

Total snowfall for the season thus far from July 1 through Feb 28 equaled 17.0 inches. And 10 inches fell from one storm. Normal through Feb 28 is 30.5 inches.

At this time three years ago, TOL had recorded 73.5 inches of snowfall for the season through Feb 28. We had another storm in March 2014. TOL would up recording 86.3 inches of snow for the 2013-2014 season, which was a new record.

Total precip was below normal for February 2017. But for the first two months of 2017, we are above normal for total precip because TOL recorded around four inches of rain in January.


Toledo's forecast for the first couple days of spring looks like March weather.

Wednesday, March 1: Showers and thunderstorms before 4pm, then showers likely. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Temperature rising to near 58 by 10am, then falling to around 48 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain showers before 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and 11pm, then a chance of snow showers after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Windy, with a west wind 23 to 28 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
