instagram embed test
I'm not using a custom command like i created for my other publishing apps.
My custom command worked like this:
insta=http://Instagram.com/p/2ecMMdNQgn
The command would only embed the image. It used the url to the jpg file within html's img tag.
<img src="https://igcdn-photos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xaf1/t51.2885-15/11256829_904108156301798_1967422645_n.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></img>
My code would access the html page at instagram that contained the image, and then my code would search for og:image and parse out the url to the jpg.
This is using the embed code provided by instagram. it's a big messy blob. for some reason, i have trouble spelling instagram, therefor i'll use IG.
The image as an ad could be considered intrusive because of its size. It would be nice if smaller versions existed. Then a business would pay based upon the size used.
Problem: The embed relies on JavaScript. People like me who web-surf a lot with JS disabled would not see the image/ad. No progressive enhancement exists to display the image simply when JS is disabled.
Actually, the image can be made smaller by adjusting the value for max-width
, which has a default of 658px. I added the div
with a 10px padding and a yellow background to indicate advertisement.
max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%;
Re-worked this on Mar 11, 2017.
This is test text from another post to fill out the page in order to view how the flow is broken by the ad image.
This afternoon, I mowed and trimmed our yard and planted 36 green bean seads.
Warmish due to the humidity. At 4:00 p.m., Toledo area temps were in the mid 70s. Dew point temps were in the low 60s, producing a relative humidity of 60 to 65%. Sky still mostly cloudy with periods of sunshine.
Late this afternoon and this evening, we'll be taking stuff to our neighbor's for the weekend garage sale that begins tomorrow morning.

This version uses HTML and CSS and works without JavaScript. Good enough.
